HISTORY
Herrera is a small but well populated barrio of Ligao City. It has a land area of 67 or more
hectares. It is seven (7) kilometers away from Poblacion. It is surrounded by the barrio of
Nasisi and Barayong. Its sitios are Caranday, Caransag, Burok-Burokan and Bungatod.
Farming is the major occupation of the people. The main products are rice, copra, abaca,
fruits and vegetables. These comprise the most important product found in the place.
These products easily disposed because of jeepney and tricycle serving the commuters of
the barrio.
Surrounded with barrios with local names like Nasisi, Barayong, Nabonton , Batang and
Amtic. Herrera was named after the diligent Spanish priest. The Priest was assigned to do
mission work in the barrio.
At present Barangay Herrera is under the leadership of the competent Barangay Captain
Mr. Raul P. Pedrajeta.
Herrera Elementary School started School Year1963-1964 with Miss Norma Mateum
now Mrs. Norma A. Anson as lone teacher in the temporary school building constructed
by the parents of Herrera under the leadership of Victorino Pedrajeta, as Teniente del
Barrio and at the same time General PTA President of the School. Because of the
increased of enrolment for the following year, additional teachers were given and classes
were held at the house of retired Sgt. Alfredo Capuz. Permanent school buildings were
constructed through the joint effort of the late Mayor Rafael Gaya Sr. and Mr. Salvador
Ruivivar head of the Presidential Assistance on Community Development (PACD) and
his wife Mrs. Expectation D. Ruivivar, the Principal Of Herrera Elementary School.
During Mrs. Ruivivar’s term  as Principal, the said barangay and school have been a
consistent Model Barangay in the municipality of Ligao. High School was opened in 1968-
1981 up to third year only due to lack of student.
At present Herrera Elementary School has a population of 406 pupils, with two
Kindergarten Classes, two sections in Grade I, II,III, IV, V, AND VI WITH 14 dedicated
regular permanent teachers and Principal
Herrera Elementary School will promote quality education to develop a well rounded
individual who is God-fearing and loving, value oriented, creates his own destiny as a
responsible citizen and productive for the progress of his own community and country as
well.
